Day Two
Date: 5/10/22
Current Time: 5:56Today’s Time: 6:20 hrs
Overall Time: 10:20 hrs
It’s pretty crazy how much I was able to get done when I had an entire day to work on things. I was in the woodshop bright and early and took some pictures of what I have done so far.

Gunwales
Deck Plate
Hull repair
After that brief photoshoot, I got to work. Firstly, I used lighter grit sandpaper (120) on the gunwales and deck plate to get them super smooth. Next, after some instruction from Greg and a few failed practice pieces, I rounded over the edges of the gunwales with a handheld router. After sanding away the sections that I singed early on, I am really happy with the result!
(I really need to get better at taking pictures)
I also started sanding down the epoxy that I used last time to repair the hull but ended up stopping once I got close to the paint. I will most likely repaint the hull anyway but that is a problem for another day.
Once I was happy with my routing job and the smoothness of the gunwales and deck plate, I mixed up some epoxy (unthickened) and started painting it onto the exposed wood. This will keep water from getting into the pores of the wood which will cause mold.
Tomorrow, I will sand the other bench and talk to Greg about the wood I need to get. Right now, the plan is to pick up wood for the oars on Friday, but I am getting through everything pretty quickly and might need it earlier.
