Day Thirteen

Date: 5/23/22

Current Time: 7:33

Today’s Time: 8:15 hrs

Overall Time: 84:30 hrs

I got a lot done today! Firstly, I needed to flip over the boat, it was time to start working on the tops of the rails! I started by finding the proper drill bit to make a pilot hole for my oarlock socket. After a bit of trial and error, I found the right one. Greg gave me a special bit so I could center the pilot hole with the holes of the socket. I only ended up with one hole that was a bit janky and I don’t think that it will be too visible.

After drilling, I put a coat of varnish on the tops and insides of the rail as well as on top of the breastplate. I also got another (fifth I think) coat onto the oars. After that, I painted in the letters of the nameplate with black paint. After a bit of watching paint dry, I sanded out where I made mistakes and then added a rollover of the edge with the router.

I then made a trip to Belletates to get more paint for the hull. Greg said that it would be best to get at least two on. I didn’t quite have time to put it on though because I was going to the sweat lodge at elbow. I am, however, going to try to get in the woodshop tonight, to put on that coat.

(Edit) The second coat of paint is on! It took most of study hall but it's done!
