Day Six

Date: 5/14/22

Current Time: 4:03

Today’s Time: 6:15 hrs

Overall Time: 36:05 hrs

My oars are finally starting to look like oars after today! After Processing the wood we scavenged yesterday, along with an old board of mahogany Greg had laying around, I glued the paddle together.

After seeing everything together I am changing up my original design. Now, rather than an almost triangular shape, I am planning to have it more like the classic canoe paddle. This will make it easier to shape with the grinder and will also provide more surface area than my original plan.

After that, while the glue was setting up, I sanded down the epoxy I added to the hull yesterday. I also added some thinner epoxy to fill in the gaps between the hull and rails. I will need to sand that down and get all the dust off the hull before I paint.

Monday, I will start to shape the oars with a hand grinder and handheld planer.
